It's Week 948!
This week Ashley, Jace and Will went to the KU Engineering Career fair, to chat up nervous undergrads and hunt for our next 'apprentice.' It's been a while since we've been there, and we've been meeting our recent people in other ways. But it's been over a year since we had an apprentice on board, so it was time to reengage with a new cohort of budding developers.
The apprenticeship is a part of BNB that I love, despite the fact that it probably doesn't pencil out as a 'good' business activity. It takes a lot of time to train and mentor people, and time is our fundamental unit as a services business. But we really LOVE meeting new designers and developers, we love showing them what we do at BNB, and we love giving them real-world training in our process.
And of course, many of our beloved BNB teammates started out in this program and became full-time employees here too. You can't beat that!
The apprentices get to do some basic tasks in our tech stack, and then build their own app from the ground up, focusing around a specific niche of users that they choose. It's fun to talk to them about what we do, explain how we work, and see people light up when they realize the possibilities of building powerful digital tools quickly, for real people.
